How ADS are helping participants work towards their NDIS goals in practical, hands-on ways.
Auscare Day Services are passionate about supporting our clients to work towards their NDIS goals. Our support services are always looking for ways to integrate learning and skill building opportunities into community access and the interests of each client.
Recently, one of our participants had the opportunity to integrate their love of gardening with their goal to build skills to increase independence and increase their health.
It was a beautiful day to head out to the Auscare Day Services garden plot in Palmwoods. We always love visiting the garden and watching the progress of the plants and seeing what other goodies are reaching maturity. There’s often some volunteers in the garden when we go to visit and it’s great to be a part of the community and have conversation about the latest garden events and news!
Our plants were growing so quickly! With all of the rain lately, everything had really taken off. It was exciting to see that some were ready to use to cook and eat.
We decided to pick some of the Kale to cook with and try out a new recipe – Kale Chips.
We took the kale back to the participant’s home and we gave it a good wash.
Next, we ripped the kale into small, bite-sized pieces.
We then tossed the pieces of kale in some olive oil and sprinkled on a little salt.
We spread the kale out onto oven trays and put them in the oven for 15 minutes at 160°.
We let them cool for approximately 5 minutes before serving and trying!
This activity provided our participant with the opportunity to integrate their NDIS goals:
- Community Access
- Social Skills
- Skill Building
- Assistance with Independent Living
- Increase Physical Health and Wellbeing
